We’re collecting valuable feedback at the Sinsheim Business Run
Hamann & Friends GmbH invited us to collect feedback from athletes at the Sinsheim Business Run – an opportunity we certainly didn’t want to miss!
We’ll be on site with our edible algae cups and a variety of flavor samples. Direct exchange with the runners is especially important to us!

Who we are
We are a young team from Heilbronn and Öhringen, passionately committed to sustainability and innovation.
With AlgaSprint, we aim to offer a simple yet effective solution to plastic waste: an edible algae-based cup that is eco-friendly, practical, and refreshingly different. Especially at sporting events, it can serve as a sustainable alternative to disposable cups.
We are supported by dedicated teachers as well as experts from science and industry who guide us with their knowledge and experience. Together, we want to show that real change often begins with a bold idea.
The story behind AlgaSprint
2022
Our idea was born during the 2022 “International Science Congress” held at SAGE College in Cádiz, Spain. It was the first time we explored alternatives to plastic. We developed a range of concepts – from cups, plates, cooling packs and pads to shoe soles and lampshades.
This experience was incredibly inspiring for us and played a key role in the development of our current formula and the idea of the algae-based cup as a sustainable alternative to plastic cups.
The event itself was a great experience filled with many wonderful memories. It was also where we gained our first experience in pitching – although it was more of a project presentation with a strong scientific focus, rather than a true business pitch.

Is the cup really edible?
Yes, our cup is made from algae and is completely edible. After drinking, it can simply be eaten or composted.
What does the cup taste like?
The taste of our edible algae cups is flexible and can be customized. We have already successfully tested several flavors, including refreshing cola-lime, creamy chocolate, and delicate vanilla. Upon request, we can tailor the flavor even further – for example, by adding protein powder or other ingredients to perfectly suit your needs.
What happens if I don’t eat the cup?
No problem – the cup is 100% biodegradable and decomposes in an eco-friendly way within a few weeks.
Can the cup hold liquids?
Yes, the cup is designed to easily hold water or sports drinks and can even keep them cool – ideal for running events.
Are there nutrients in the cup?
Yes, our edible cup contains valuable minerals, fiber, vitamins, and proteins. Upon request, we can also add dextrose and additional nutrients to optimally support athletes.
Can the cup be customized (e.g. with a logo)?
Yes, we are currently developing versions with custom patterns and logos – ideal for events, sponsors, or sports clubs. Color customization is already possible, and we can produce cups in various colors to match your preferences.
